34th European Childhood Obesity Congress

The European Childhood Obesity Group (ECOG) is a pan-European association of professionals dealing with childhood obesity and overweight. ECOG brings together experts from a diversity of disciplines, ranging from paediatricians, psychologists, nutritionists, geneticists, physical activity experts, economists, and more – all united by an unwavering commitment to the study and prevention of childhood obesity.

There is a strong relationship and bond between BSE and ECOG, as we help in the organisation of the yearly European Childhood Obesity Group Congress since 2010. The 34th ECOG Congress will be organised in teh city of Uppsla, Sweden from November 26 until November 28. If you want to know more about the previous and next congresses, please visit this link here.

The 2024 Congress on Childhood Obesity was a truly global event, bringing together over 250 participants from 28 different countries, not only from Europe but from across the world. This highlighted the international significance of addressing childhood obesity. The congress featured 40 distinguished speakers who shared their expertise on the latest research, clinical practices, and strategies to combat this growing health issue. A total of 66 abstracts were presented as posters, providing researchers with a valuable platform to showcase their findings.

The diverse audience included doctors, professors, PhD students, researchers, public health experts, and policy officers, fostering rich discussions and collaboration. A major highlight of the event was the first-ever Policy Roundtable, where leading experts explored key challenges and opportunities in developing effective policies to address childhood obesity.

The success of the 2024 congress underscored the importance of continued global efforts to tackle this urgent public health concern.

It’s Water, Stupid!

In the summer 2024 edition of Living Architecture Monitor (LAM), our managing director Luigi Petito reflects on the global water crisis. According to the United Nations Environment Programme, at least 50 percent of the world’s population, approximately 4 billion people, endure water shortages for at least one month each year.

To tackle this crisis, there is the need for sincere political commitment and increased financial support to protect and restore natural areas. In urban environments, we can boost water resilience by deploying readily available solutions to revive the natural urban water cycle.

In Europe, lawmakers have enacted important regulations to promote greener and more efficient rainwater management. These include the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and the EU Nature Restoration Law, which are crucial for advancing blue and green infrastructure across European cities.

The full article is available here.

The LAM magazine is a quarterly publication first published in 1998.  It features in-depth interviews with leaders in the green building movement, opinions, research, and green roof and wall project profiles. Living architecture is the integration of living, organic systems with non-living, inorganic systems in, on, or around buildings. Living architecture is an important step to reconcile people and nature in the modern built environment.

In January 2020 we were asked to set up and run the European Chapter of the World Green Infrastructure Network. Another exciting task to improve the quality of urban areas and help cities to reconnect with nature.
